What is silk?
Silk is a natural material of animal origin. Silk comes from the cocoon made by the bombyx caterpillar, otherwise called “the silkworm”. The silkworm produces a very precious thread when it becomes a chrysalis. It is this thread that is used to create this famous fabric.
Let our experts explain the benefits of sleeping with a silk pillowcase in 15 points:
Avoiding sleep marks
You know those marks from your pillow that leave marks on your face? Although these marks disappear during the day, they are often unsightly and are harmful to your skin. The further you go in time, the more sleep marks will remain on your face, for the simple reason that our skin becomes fragile with age. Collagen and elastin decrease and cause folds and wrinkles to appear that last over time. When we think that we spend 1/3 of our life sleeping, you can well imagine the damage caused by friction on our face…
With its smooth and soft surface, silk allows the skin to slide and avoid friction. The skin therefore no longer experiences any friction to considerably reduce traces of sleep as well as offering natural protection throughout the night.
Protection for your eyes
One of the most sensitive areas of our face is under the eye area. Regular cotton will “pull” on the skin, because cotton, although soft, does not have a smooth, lustrous surface like silk. The eye area will therefore be one of the first places to benefit from the benefits of silk.
Anti-aging prevention
Did you know that silk is made up of several amino acids?
These include glycine, alanine, serine and tyrosine, which are of particular importance in skin care applications. Indeed, amino acids and silk proteins have the particularity of promoting the formation of collagen and increasing its elasticity. Silk is therefore an excellent natural way to rejuvenate your skin while giving you mental rest.
Nighttime hydration
It is during the night that our mind rests but our body is still functioning. This is the time for the regeneration of our cells, the creation of new arrivals which will guarantee the sustainability of our body.
With cotton, skin regeneration is more complicated because cotton has a strong absorption capacity: it will drink water from the skin and therefore dehydrate it (in addition to often creating sleep marks). Silk absorbs very little, which allows the skin to keep and use its natural hydration throughout the night.
So don’t hesitate to put on your night cream before going to bed, the silk will guarantee good penetration of the latter.
